Meditation makes you sharper
Tuesday, November 15th, 2005Research has shown that meditation makes you perform better by altering the structure of the brain. They found that meditation causes a thickening of the areas involved with attention and sensory perception in the cortex. The growth is caused by a widening of the blood vessels and increased brancing and interconnections.
In a test where volunteers responded to visual stimulus by pressing a button, they found that those who meditated for 40 minutes showed an immediate increase in performance compared to those who did other things for the same duration (reading, sleeping, etc).
It might be quite interesting to test whether meditation has any noticeable effect in productivity and creativity at work. I may have to look in to doing some tests myself; see how my productivity increases over the course of a week, say.
